With VIEL Maxence, we created the COVI coffee grinder
a blend of traditional grinding mechanisms and sleek, modern design — created to offer a simple, fresh, and elegant way to enjoy everyday coffee.

Logo Work

Our objective was to create a logo using our names while ensuring it immediately resonated with the world of coffee. We explored keywords associated with this universe, such as comfort, cosy, and coffee, to guide the brand’s identity.
By combining elements of our names, we eventually arrived at a brand concept that felt natural and aligned with our vision. The logo development process involved extensive sketching and experimentation, producing numerous variations before selecting a final design that satisfied both of us and accurately represented the brand.

Our 1:1 concept model was created using a combination of 3D-printed components and laser-cut metal parts. All metal surfaces were extracted from our 3D model and exported to Meshmixer, where the meshes were flattened to prepare them for laser cutting.
The model was designed for quick and intuitive assembly. Most components were engineered to clip together, allowing for a fast and efficient build process without the need for additional fasteners.
This model was functional purely for visual and conceptual purposes. The actual grinding mechanism was not integrated; instead, it was emulated by incorporating two long ball bearings in each part to simulate the grinding action. Magnetic plates were also added to the bottom capsule to represent how the capsule would clip into place in the final product.

Customisable

We wanted our coffee grinder to feel personal to every user. By making each component customisable and interchangeable, we envisioned a retail experience where customers could assemble their own bespoke COVI grinder, selecting individual parts to suit their preferences.
We also imagined themed collections, such as national colourways — for example, red, white, and blue for France, or red, white, and green for Italy — allowing users to express identity through design.
Finally, we explored more premium materials and finishes to elevate the product, including stainless steel, aluminium, and refined finishes such as gold, silver, rose gold, and brass.
